Listening for Love

There are times when we are timid and shy about expressing the love we feel. Sometimes we even hesitate to say the actual words “I love you.“ So we try to communicate the idea in other words.

We say ‘take care’ or ‘don’t drive too fast’ or ‘be good.‘ But really, these are just other ways of saying ‘I love you,‘ ‘you are important to me,‘ ‘I care what happens to you.‘

We are sometimes very strange people. The only thing we want to say, and the one thing that we should say, is the one thing we don’t say.

And yet, because the feeling is so real, and the need to say it is so strong, we are driven to use other words and signs to say what we really mean. And many times the meaning never gets communicated at all and the other person is left feeling unloved and unwanted.

Therefore, we have to listen for love in the words that people are saying to us. Sometimes the explicit words are necessary, but more often, the manner of saying things is even more important. A joyous insult carries more affection and love within the sentiments which are expressed insincerely.

An impulsive hug says I love you even though the words might be saying a very different thing.

Any expression of a person’s concern for another says I love you. Sometimes the expression is clumsy, sometimes even cruel. Sometimes we must look and listen very intently for the love that contains. But it is often there, beneath the surface.

Lent 2010

So, the homily last Sunday on V-Day was about Lent. The priest talked about the history and was informative about it’s origin. Lent really meant… “spring” though it had a different name in Latin as the term quadragesima, or fortieth day. 40 is indeed a significant number in the Bible.

Tomorrow is Ash Wednesday. Though it’s not a holiday of obligation, it feels like one as we see people in the subway, work, school, and so forth with ash crosses on their forehead. It feels like everyone is a Catholic on this day.

The priest says, “from dust you came and to dust you shall return…“ Serves as a reminder that we are all mortals. The priest continues about Lent and our tradition of letting go of something for this occasion. Of course, we can’t eat meat tomorrow and every Friday til the end of Lent. yay salad and fish! .. SUSHI!!!! I guess I’ll see my Catholic friends for Sushi?

Anyways, for Lent the priest says that we should give up something easy. Not too easy, and not too hard either. Something in-between. If it’s too hard, you’ll fail. If it’s insignificant, it doesn’t matter. The priest says, “If you don’t like broccoli, that wouldn’t count.“ haha. It has to be something you like and doable. In times when you forget, don’t give up. It’s better to say, “I ruined my Lent 5x!“ than say, “I was doing so well, until the nth day when I ruined it..yada yada yada.“ In times when you have the urge to give up lent or fail, he continues by saying that we should put something in its place. That’s where prayer comes along. Whatever you give up, replace it with prayer. That’s about it.. just wanted to share and serve as a reminder.

Nonetheless, have a great Easter everyone and see you for sushi! =D

I’m just wondering whether the Earth’s angle of rotation has changed. A minute change can be affecting all of this weather and shifting the location of the Earth’s poles. It’s just interesting to think that if we look back during the years of the dinosaurs, New York was a dense tropical area. Could it be that the north and south poles were different back then? This is a food for thought!

This hypothesis is already thought of… read more at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cataclysmic_pole_shift_hypothesis

New York City Subway System

NY Subway… thumbs down!

There’s nothing like a morning commute and hiked up prices. Did someone say ‘sardines’? Nonetheless i just wanted to rant and talk about improvements. Sure they are making new train lines, sure they have a lot of trains, and sure they have daily ongoing construction… But its still inefficient and not dependable. A subway commute is randomized and does not seem to follow a schedule.

It’s based on train delays and how other people hold up the trains. That’s right it’s actually other people not MTA. But they are also to blame because they don’t seem to understand this. Solutions! (1) Announce and provide approximations of the next several incoming train and the train letter/number. This will allow passengers to also accomodate their travel plans and not try to rush in to the next train creating additional delays. I have seen my share of seeing the next train so empty it becomes… (2) don’t you hate it when the local train gets to where you are going before the express train you switched on? WTF lol this is solved by #1 (3) i still dont have signal in my train station. Where is my wifi?

These changes are easy to implement and should make people much happier including myself. Hopefully, our next mayor can intervene to nudge some MTA @$$!!!

So, a pair of black/marbled angelfishes out of six in our 55 gallon aquarium is a mating pair! And they laid eggs a day or two ago. We have another aquarium and immediately transferred over the other fishes. This is exciting!

It’s now day two! The eggs look like little sperm cells and wiggling but still attached to the filtration tube. I would say a day or two from now i’ll be a busy angelfish parent… haha I got to get some brine shrimp to feed these babies. As for the other angelfishes we transferred over… only 1 out of 4 survived :( *toilet bowl funeral* under way ... just kidding… they were too big for that. I remember when we had goldfishes… anyways.. off to the topic.

iPhone 3GS

So, I upgraded my phone from iPhone 3G to iPhone 3GS. [S] is for Speed.

I got the 3G about 11 months ago and before that I had an iPod Touch (1st Gen). I’ve been always looking for a phone that can do pretty much everything (with even a chance for improvement - via firmware/apps) ... and i think the iphone is pretty much my Tricorder (from Star Trek if you guys aren’t geeky enough)

I started with Palm Pilots and even tried Pocket PCs. At that time they were great…certainly incomparable, but pretty decent. The first Palms were monochromatic, good for schedules and emails. Then the iPaq Pocket PCs… now with email, video, music, wifi… whoah it’s getting better. ... then we leap into the present and we see the same capabilities but faster, reliable, and flexible.

Well, battery could always be better…nothing is perfect ^^

I did see a lot of my friends now have iPhone ... Apple must be doing something right.

As for my upgrade, I see now that it wasnt quite necessary.. the 3G and 3GS ... looks the same.. but with faster processor, voice control, nike+, improved camera, improved speed, and compass. Anyone with a 3G in my view is still okay. I upgraded since i sold my iphone 3G (16GB) for the same price i bought my iPhone 3GS (32GB). Weird right? The benefit is that, the person who bought it won’t have to sign a 2-year contract.

In the future, i want to see an iphone with better battery, frontal camera for visual conversations, better organization of icons, and probably (here comes wishful thinking) a more affordable monthly plan with more kinks and whistles like tethering, sling-box over 4G, etc. I know i’m asking for so little…. throw me a freakin’ bone here. o.O heheh
